There are many people out there who do not like the typical brush cleaners that are bought at the stores. Therefore, there have been many different recipes put together for you to clean your makeup brushes at home without any chemicals. Some of them are household products you may have, that do contain slight chemicals, and some are more natural products. All of these you should have at home that you can do today.
Baking soda is one of the most used products for natural cleaning. Baking soda is used for many household cleaners, but mostly it is used for body products as it is not harsh on the skin. Baking soda has even been used to replace toothpaste, so you know that it is gentle on your brushes.
Dawn dish soap is a less natural alternative, but it is recommended for many cleaning purposes. It has even been recommended to wash animals, so it is gentle enough that you can use on your makeup brushes as well. Many people have this in their home, and it is a cheap alternative to expensive cleaners, and lasts even longer.
Vinegar is one that is not scented so nicely, however it does the job. Vinegar has been known to be paired with essential oils and clean and disinfect for awhile now. Vinegar can be used to clean your brushes and although they may not smell great, the smell with fade the more that you use your brushes.
Olive oil is one of the most popular DIY brush cleaners that there are, and is safe for almost every single makeup brush out there. While I don’t recommend using this for foundation brushes if you already have oily skin, I do recommend using this for smaller eyeshadow and contouring brushes. Olive oil will not only naturally clean your brushes, but it will also condition the brushes and soften its bristles as well.
No matter how you clean your brushes, it is important to use lukewarm water as the warm with help kill bacteria, however you don’t want it to be too hot on the brush as this can damage their form.
